THE APPEARANCE
Once lauded as the most beautiful woman in all of Britain Guinevere still holds that spectacular beauty. Her hair is a fiery auburn that can fall straight or turn into riotous curls at her whim. Her eyes are normally a diverse mixture, ranging in color from a rich emerald to the palest shades of green depending upon her mood. She stands a good five foot nine inches in her bare feet but often wears heels to formal functions thus appearing much taller. It is habit for her to dress rather formally in dresses and skirts rather than the pants that are more prevalent in today’s society. She doesn’t often care about what she wears, just puts on whatever her secretary hands her and trusts that it is becoming.
THE PERSONALITY
In her youth Guinevere was a vibrant adventurous woman that loved nothing more than setting out on the next adventure. Whether that adventure was prowling the streets of London or roughing it in the wilderness she never seemed to care. As the years passed she mellowed with age and experience. Most days she feels as if she has seen it all, heard it all, and experienced all that the living have to offer her. It leaves most that come into contact with her feeling as if she is detached and without emotions. Her emotions are buried deeply due to past experiences with becoming attached to humans and watching them die, watching friends choose death, even having to put some of those friends to death when their minds fracture due to their extended life. Guinevere has often caught herself wondering if they are not some diseased section of the human race as more often than not the human mind cannot handle eternity. It is a depressing thought that she buries under work and responsibilities to her people and maintaining the peace.
THE HISTORY
BIRTH PLACE: Medieval Wales
CHANGED: Year 545 AD
Very few, if any, people alive today know Guinevere’s full history as the story she tells to those that ask often changes depending on her mood. When whimsical her life was full of longing sighs and daring romances. While morose the tale changes to one of drawn out battles and endless deaths. The number of people that have passed by her in her time upon the earth can be staggering, even to her own mind. Time has all but lost all meaning to Guinevere as she is one of the oldest of her kind and stays mostly segregated from them. She only just recently gained the title of Queen of Achaphen given that it’s past leader specifically asked her to take over the position when they met the sun.
Guinevere was born Gwenhwyfar of Cameliard, and after her parents deaths when she was fifteen, a ward of Cador the Duke of Cornwall. After their passing she continued her education as befit a woman of her station and Cador took her out into the world to find a husband. She met her future husband when she was seventeen as he was helping to free her father’s kingdom from British rule. She fell blindly in love with the man and they were married not long after. Their marriage was full of trials as they travelled from kingdom to kingdom until he finally gained everything he wanted. It was then they settled down and he began leaving her behind more often. No longer were they equals, suddenly for the first time in years they were husband and wife in the traditional sense, and Guinevere didn’t know how to handle it.
History has many different ways of ending her story but all Guinevere will ever reveal was that he sent her away to the duke and then he died. Sadness always fills her eyes, no matter where she is or with whom, at the tale. It was not many years after she went into seclusion that her mentor suggested a different type of lifestyle for her. He changed her then, a staggeringly painful process that she can still remember in complete detail even now. So as he had taken her in before he did so again, revealing his true self to Gwen and teaching her about hers. As was bound to happen, they became lovers for a great number of years, far outnumbering any human relationship they could have had. Guinevere matured and grew confidant in her new identity and eventually asked Cador to let her go on her own path. He agreed and they separated until the day he called her to his side to meet the sun with him.
Her six hundredth year was a depressing one as far as she was concerned and she hardly dwells on it if she doesn’t have too. Cador asked her for an audience and demanded that she die with him. He’d reached his nine hundredth year and decided, for the both of them, that life was no longer worth living. Guinevere vehemently declined his offer and they spent nearly two hundred years playing cat and mouse across the European countryside. Near the end of their game she gained the confidence of a long standing vampire hunter family. None of the humans at this point had been very skilled at killing her kind, most believed they could inflict mortal wounds upon a vampire and that it would stay dead. Little did they know that most of them looking to avoid a fight just faked death and escaped from their graves when the humans were far from their burial sight. A young hunter by the name of Bran fell in love with her and offered to help her in exchange for knowledge of how to kill those of her kind. A treacherous bargain but one she was willing to make given the circumstances. It was with their help that she was finally able to kill Cador and get out from under his thumb.
Guinevere spent the next her time in and out of society changing her name to different variations of her original one throughout the years as she got bored with the old spelling. She’s been Gwenhwyfar, Guenevere, Ginervra, Gwendolen, Guenièvre, Gwendolyn, even Jennifer as the name adapted to the times. She finally settled upon Guinevere in recent times and in a toast to the past took the last name Camlann. More and more her mind wanders to her past rather than focusing on the future like she has before and the thought worries her. She has seen many that were older than her crack under the pressure of so many years upon the earth and go mad. Many times the vampire community had had to band together to hunt and kill such individuals before they could do irreconcilable damage to their hidden culture. She’d even put down a few friends over the years which is what drove her to seclusion around her thousandth year of life. She was abominably tired of getting close to someone just to watch them die.
She disappeared from Europe without a word or trace leading to her whereabouts and dissolved into the world of myth and legend. Around the nineteen hundreds she was befriended by a young vampire named Eli that had been appointed the King of Erthor. He was still naïve and full of the exuberance of youth and Guinevere found his rambling amusing if nothing else. He often brought random problems up to her remote home in Louisiana to ask her advice when he found it difficult to trust anyone else. Over the years he began slowly drawing her back into society until she was a common face amongst the vampires of Erthor. This was how he managed to get the fledglings in his coven to agree to her taking over the coven when he unexpectedly met the sun. Again Guinevere outlived the only real friend she had, again she was betrayed by their frailty and cursed by her own lack. She resolved to run Erthor for as long as they felt they needed her and she would eventually resolve her debt to Eli.
