THE APPEARANCE
Not the tallest of men, Victor often finds his underlings towering over him. He is quite thin bordering right on what one would consider scrawny. The king of Lareth is often underestimated despite his advanced age and apparent strength as a vampire. He often wears glasses to no apparent effect and he often removes them before losing his cool. Such is a sign of warning with the added bonus of preserving them from certain destruction, of course. A champion of formal attire, Victor is never found without his famous striped suit, matching tie and dark shoes. His hair is rather dark, matching his obsidian eyes. The king often sports a beard.
THE PERSONALITY
Astute and of cunning disposition; the vampire king of Lareth has successfully held the territory's throne for well over a century. As a ruler he minds his own business and prefers to keep to himself. He strikes many a visitor as gullible and too trusting, a stupid misconception. Victor holds favorable opinions of nearly everyone but he is quite analytical of the personalities he deals with. A man of intellect, Victor is rather soft spoken and mild mannered yet knows whenever to assert himself. The king is humorous and easygoing, taking his immortal existence in strides. He possesses the patience of an angel and a particular individual can go to great lengths without angering him. Victor is an avid student of history and a collector of all things pertaining to the civil war. Over the years he has adopted a particularly authentic sounding Texan accent.
THE HISTORY
BIRTH PLACE: London, Great Britain
CHANGED: Age of Discovery, 1633
Born in the city of London in the year 1603, Victor was born into a prominent family of affluent prosperity. Britain was enjoying a lengthy boom as the Age of Discovery came into full force. It was a time of exploration and many great pioneers took to the seas in search of new lands to open up. The crown mandated as such, god mandated as such. These were the days when a crown or book was of major importance to a greatly superstitious population. When the East India Company called upon his father, Edward, to board the next ship for India the man responded by packing his family and belongings with both pride and glee. India was viewed as a new start by many yet for the lot of them it was merely a way to get wealthy with relative ease. Colonial oppression became the new motto and young Brit witnessed a lot of atrocities being committed as the locals attempted to assert themselves toward their newfound oppressors. He quickly became apathetic to it, eventually becoming deaf to the gunshots and screams.
The British formed a tight knit community away from the local population. Not wanting to stain their reputations by consorting with the locals. Victor, like many of his fellows, cared little but agreed in silence. His father's work brought food to their table and gold to their coffers. This mattered most for one portion of mankind was virtually predestined to exploit the other. Victor knew very well that he was fortunate enough to be a part of the exploiters' side in the scheme of things. At the humble age of fifteen he was introduced to his future wife, Emily and they quickly hit it off. First they went as friends, then as lovers. Victor, like many of his fellows, would find employment at his father's office. For the next three years he would stamp papers with the ornate mark of the East India Company. Luckily for him, the boring days were short and company was good.
At the age of twenty he and Emily were married in a lavish ceremony, reflecting their families' stolen wealth. A day Victor recalls as one of the happiest is his existence. It wasn't long after that his wife fell pregnant with their only daughter, Gwyneth. Time went by at high speed and his life became very eventful virtually overnight. Edward soon retired, ceding his son the prized position of colonial administrator. The colony flourished under Victor's administration and the territory saw an influx of colonists and an exponential rise in revenue. His ideas and views were usually well received by the company's leadership in London. He soon moved his family into a newly built home. All went well, for a while.
Yet disaster was bound to strike. One night he returned home to find his belongings vandalized. A scrawny figure stood over his wife, who seemed to be in terrible agony. Using an ornate, silver cross for a weapon, Victor beat the man over his head. The silver burned into the assailant's skin and the administrator made quick use of the moment; stabbing him through the heart with a sharp object he retrieved from the floor. A flash of blood followed as his wife's attacker was reduced to little more than paint. The entire room stained red within mere seconds. Emily was not dead; however. His wife was struck with the severest of agony. Victor relocated her to their bedchamber while servants cleaned the mess.
For three days he remained by her side in the darkened chamber, allowing not even their daughter entry. Victor watched his wife change. Emily turned cold, pale. Yet just when he began to fear infection would take her from him he was pleasantly surprised to find her 'alive'. Slowly he became aware of her condition, however. Going hungry, Emily nearly turned him into a snack there and then, only to stop herself just in time. After being made aware of the situation his wife 'persuaded' him to join her in eternity. Two days of agony followed. The couple's daughter was kept out of it at his urging as Victor felt Gwyneth deserved a choice at least. One could not expect a five year old to make such an important decision, of course.
Nearly eleven years after being made a vampire, Victor was forced to turn his sister. Emilia had been used as bait by a clique of vampire hunters in a foil to bait the Ashfords. Unable to cope with the loss of his youngest sister, he offered her a way out of the loop. He stayed in India until their daughter came of age, upon which Emily sat het down and she too joined them. Victor then relocated his family to Massachusetts, feeling it was time for a change. For years they laid low as the humans, in their eternal inclination toward Puritanism and idiocy; burned all they considered abominations. During his tenure in the north he held many positions, ranging from governor to a wealthy plantation owner. Time went by quickly and he eventually relocated to the south, wanting a change of scenery.
Settling down in Texas in the eighteen hundreds, Victor used his fortune to acquire one of the largest cotton plantations in the state and grew wealthier yet again. With the Civil War brewing; he threw in his lot with the Confederate and served as a general in the Confederate States Army for the next four years. Analytical and with a mind sharp as knives, Gen. Victor Ashford turned many a Northern force to dust. Rumors of his vampirism became common but, frankly, no one cared enough to find out the truth.
After the war's end, Victor also became embroiled in the politics of the vampire world and with aid of his wife he quickly rose to prominence. He was elected king in the closing days of the nineteenth century, one of the only kings not to take the position by murdering his predecessor. Victor took and still does take great pride in this and while no great epics of a titanic battle remain he's certain of being one of the only rulers to have beaten his opponent fair and square.
As the age of oil loomed on the horizon Victor once again changed his game, sold his cotton plantation, and invested in the booming petroleum industry. Quickly he acquired a substantial amount of the US' proven reserves. And over the years he became obscenely wealthy, founding a company that deals in natural resources. Ashford Industries deals in anything humanity needs to destroy the world and more, being one of the only companies that is entirely dominated by vampires and their progeny. Having come to surpass businessmen such as Donald Trump with incredible ease, he views the human elite with absolute disdain and chastises them for their idiocy.
