THE APPEARANCE
Last time Caelum looked in the mirror, he didn't really see anything special. Over the years, several people have told him he was "handsome", or even"cute", but he can't really imagine why. His black hair and dark-brown eyes aren't a very unusual combination, and combined with his tanned, olive-colored skin, it gives Caelum a Hispanic look. Of course, that isn't stange considering he was born in Spain. He is tall, around six-five, which is something he really doesn't like, but other people often tell him they think it's cool. They obviously never experienced what it's like to have people staring at you at all times, to never be able to hide or mingle with the crowd, sometimes to even be treated as an entirely different species. Oh wait,he is an entirely different species. Well, the point is clear. He works out a lot, which shows in his muscled body. He likes to think it's muscular, without being scaringly buffy. Hisbody is actually one of the few parts of my body he actually likes and is proud of. Him muscles, combined with his significant height, make for a total weight of 190 lbs., which makes him slightly underweight. Honestly, he's fine with that.
He likes to wear tight shirts, usually red or yellow. It might be a little smug, but he likes to show off my body. For him, it makes up for his insecurity about the rest of his body. He usually combines them with shorts, but the weather sometimes forces him to wear sweaters and jeans. Of course, as a vampire, he doesn't feel hot or cold, but humans will get suspicious if you go out in as few clothes as possible when it snows or something. He also likes to wear straw hats. He feels like it sticks out against his dark looks, but in a good way. He has two tattoos. They are Latin texts, lessons he tries to never forget. One of them, the one on his chest, says: "Non est ad astra mollis e terris via." It means that there is no easy way from the earth to the stars. You have to be patient, because most things aren't easy. The other one, on his back, between my shoulders, reads: "Memento, homo, quia pulvis es et in pulverem revertis." It means that you should remember that you are made of dust and will return to dust. For him, it means that he should not take things for granted. He may lead his coven now, but that might change at any given moment. Treasure what is dear while you still have it.
THE PERSONALITY
What is Caelum like? That’s a very hard question to answer, mostly because there are, as usual, two sides to it. He is usually very kind and gentle, and immediately takes a liking in most people, whether he knows them or not. He is also loyal to the people he feels are worthy of his loyalty, but it’s a hard thing to earn. But once he trust you, he will do anything for you. He is a fairly smart boy. Not like a genius or anything, not even close, but he’s definitely not stupid. On the other side, he is very suspicious, even toward people he likes. He is very weary of people, so he also has a lot of problems actually bounding with people. He only ever fully trusted five people, and four of them are dead now, so he’s afraid of people breaking his heart. He is very impatient, especially with disobedience. People should know who their superiors are and listen to them.
What is he good at? That's a hard question too, you know. His strengths probably are... maybe hisphysical strength? Oh, he’s also good with weaponry. His mother made him train with swords and maces since the day he turned six, so he can handle those fairly well now. He’s kind of smart, too. Does that count? He’s also kind of a good leader. People usually listen to him when he says something, and he can handle pressure well. Another strength might be his memory. He has a photographic memory, so he can remember everything he sees exactly the way it is. It has helped him quite a bit over the years. It also makes him remember who his ennemies are. He has a mental list with everybody who ever tried to screw him over ever since he was turned. And if he sees them again, he will screw them right back.
Now, what is he not so good at. That's a lot easier. He’s impatient, as said before. He’s definitely unforgiving. If you did something to make him hate you, that won't change until either one of you dies. He’s slightly emotionally unstable. Even though he likes almost everyone, he has a lot of trouble opening himself up. He only did that three times, and all those times, they got killed and his heart got broken, so he tries not to do that again. He also has a lot of trouble showing his emotions. He doesn't know how to let people know how he feels. But to be honest, he’s fine with that. Even if he knew, he probably wouldn't do it. His problems are his problems, and he’d prefer them to stay that way. He doesn't want to bother other people with them. Also, he’s just overall terrible with numbers. he simply cannot do math. And finally, he wants people to listen to me. This is mostly due to the fact that he’s used to it, but it's also just his stubborn, impatient personality.
What is he afraid of? That's a very interesting question. He’s scared of a lot of things, actually. He’s afraid to open up, because he’s afraid that people will hurt him if he does, or that other people will hurt them. He’s afraid of anything happening to his brother. He's the last living family member he has, and even though he lives in Europe, he still tries to look out for him. Angel doesn't really like that, he feels like he should look out for Caelum, since he's older. But Angel is authistic, which is sometimes seen as a sign of weakness, and for a vampire, that can be lethal. Caelum’s afraid of heights. Whenever he gets to a place that's over 100 feet high, he gets terrified. People often make fun of this, because he’s six-and-a-half feet. He’s also afraid of snails, and bigger bugs or other bigger insects. He knows it's stupid, but whenever he sees one of them, he just freezes, and his stomach turns upside down.
Now, what does he like and dislike. It would take years to list them all, so let’s just list the most important things. He likes people, he truly does. He also likes books, and reading. His favorite book is Hamlet, by William Shakespeare. He likes singing, even though he’s terrible at it. Really, really terrible. So he usually just sings under the shower. He specifically likes beautiful people. He doesn't really care if they are male or female, as long as they're pretty. He likes watching movies, as do all people, probably. He prefers action or thriller. Now, his dislikes. He dislikes stupid or disobedient people. Those two are usually found in the same type of people, since smart people know who their superiors are and tend to listen to them. He also dislikes anything mathmatical, and even though he’s done his senior year about three times, he somehow avoided taking math or physics. He dislikes arrogant people, or people who act like they're better than him. Even if you are, just try not to rub it in, will you?
THE HISTORY
BIRTH PLACE: Barcelona
CHANGED: 1577
Caelum was born on March 13, 1577 in Barcelona, Spain. His father was a nobleman, a baron. His mother was the daughter of a count. Their marriage wasn't out of love, and that was not a secret. Their fathers had arranged the marriage when they were just children. His mother once told him that there was only one man she ever loved. He’s pretty sure that man was not his father, so that could explain why she did not only not love him, she actually despised him. So yeah, they weren't exactly the perfect family, but he does believe that all of them loved each other, except for his parents of course. Caelum knows he loved them, and he loves his brother, Angel. His parents were 31 when Angel was born, and they were already starting to fear they couldn't get children. So when his brother was born, they felt like a guardian angel had helped them. Four years later, they found out about his autism, and they knew he would never be able to inherit their title and riches. Then, when they were already 37, Caelum was born. They thought he was a gift from heaven, and called him Caelum, Latin for heaven.
For the first seventeen years, Caelum was spoiled. He had to learn about etiquette, and how to be a good soldier, but for the rest, he didn´t need to do anything. That is, except for his mother´s special training. When he was about two, his mother got sick, and she couldn´t get out of her bed during the day anymore. But at night, she would take Angel and Caelum out to practice fighting, both hand-to-hand and with weapons. Caelum was better than Angel, a lot better. He didn't like the training, the violence. Caelum did. Their mother would let them fight each other, and very rarely, she herself would fight one of them. Caekum almost always won his fights against Angel, but none of them had ever been able to beat their mother. She was incredibly strong and fast, and even if they would be able to hit her, she would heal in mere seconds. This didn't seem strange to Caelum. His mother was the only person besides himself and his brother and the other boys in his military class that I'd ever seen fighting, so he just assumed she'd had a lot of training.
A few months after he turned seventeen, his mother came to get Angel and Caelum. Nothing irregular, just for practice. Or so he thought. As they walked toward the practice grounds, Caelum noticed there were no guards, and that some of the walls were splattered with a dark, red-black liquid. His mother brought us to the grounds, and told them to look up to the stars. It was something she sometimes did, to teach them about the stars and planets instead of fighting. So Caelum looked up. My mother started explaining about the Zodiac signs, and how Caelum was born in Pisces, and Angel in Virgo. Suddenly, he felt the worst pain he ever felt in my life, as something penetrated his back and probably something vital. He heard Angel gasp as well, and heard his mother cry. Caelum somehow managed to look back, and saw that she was the one who had stabbed him and his brother. Just before everything turned black, Caelum saw how she cut her wrist open with her fangs -when did she grow fangs? Then, there was nothing.
Caelum somehow woke up, feeling better and stronger than ever. He wasn't sure how he managed to still be alive. He looked around and saw Angel, laying beside him, and their mother, standing in front of them, holding a cup in her hand with something dark and red in it. When she saw Caelum was awake, she quickly came up to him, and forced him to open his mouth. He smelled the content of the cup, and somehow, he knew it was blood. Even more fearsome, he wanted it. He longed for the blood, needed it, wanted to drink every last drop of it. He felt something pierce his lip, and suddenly felt he had fangs. Too hungry to worry about that now, he drank. It was probably the best he had ever had in his life. He drank and drank, until his mother pulled him away from the cup. She told him he had to save some for Angel. Then, she started answering Caelum’s questions. She told him he was a vampire now, a fledgling. She had turned them in order to be free from their father, and now, they could travel around the world forever with just the three of them.
And so they did. Well, not with the three of them. There was a fourth vampire, a man called Johan. Apparently, he was Dutch, and Caelum’s mother's Creator. That explained why she had taken them away from their father. Spain was currently at war with Holland, and if their father would have found out about Johan, he would have had their mother executed. Johan was a master, a coven leader. He led a coven that covered the country of Holland, or what is now known as Holland. So, for the first ten years or so, they lived there. Johan and their mother taught them how to be vampires, how to drink without being discovered and how to glamour, or compel humans. Johan gave Caelum extra lessons in vampire culture and customs, because he thought Caelum might have a bright future in vampire politics ahead of him. Johan taught Caelum how to keep a coven in line, how to make them obey, stuff like that. He even made him his second-in-command, something the rest of the coven wasn't particularly excited about, since Caelum was just a seven-year-old vampire. He also started dating one of the coven's older vampires, Marina, a Greek vampire. Unbeknownst to Johan and Caelum, the coven wasn't happy about them. Three years after Caelum was made second-in-command, they killed Marina. His heart was shattered. Heartbroken, he killed the two main instigators. After that, they were forced to flee the coven.
They fled to Switzerland, where they stayed for a couple of decades. Then, they left for Ukraine and then Japan. Then Australia, Germany, South Africa and Greece. By the time they left Greece, it had been 205 years ago since his mother Turned him. Johan had heard the Dutch coven leader who had replaced him had been killed, and he wanted to get pack to the place where he was born. So, 195 years after they left the place, they returned to Amsterdam. By then, the country of Holland, combined with Belgium, had won their war of independance with Spain, and they had been independent for over 100 years, but were now again part of a bigger empire, this time Napoleon's French empire. Johan found some of his old friends who were still loyal to him, and even Angel and Caelum still had some friends there. The new master, however, was someone who had been one of the rebels, but he was kept in line by the new Queen, one of Johan's old friends.
So, they lived there happily for a couple of years, until Johan got into a fight with the coven's master. They apparently had been arguing about one of the fledglings, who had been executed as a traitor. Johan felt like there hadn't been enough evidence to execute him, and accused him of power-abuse. He also challenged him for his authority, meaning that they would fight to death, and the winner would be the coven's master. Caelum’s mother tried to convince Johan not to do it, partially because she loved him, but also because if he lost, they, as his prodigies, would be left to the master to deal with. Caelum himself wasn't too concerned. Johan was the strongest vampire he had ever seen fighting. He was almost 700 years old, about 200 years older than his opponent. Caelum knew Johan was stronger.
When the day of the fight came, Johan wasn't nervous at all. He, too, knew he would win. When the fight started, it was obvious who was the stronger vampire. Johan drove his ennemy in a corner, and was just about to decapitate him, when something in the audience distracted him. Caelum’s mother, who was sitting a few seats away from him, suddenly let out a high-pitched scream, and fell to the ground, dead. One of Johan's old ennemies stood behind her, a stake in her hand. Meanwhile, in the arena, Johan's opponent had recovered, and without hesitation, slashed out with his hand and severed Johan's head from his body in a single motion. For a second, Caelum couldn't move. In the last minute, both his mother and the man who had been like a father for him for over 200 years had been killed. But he knew he had to get out of her. He grabbed Angel, who was sitting next to him, and ran. Caelum ran all the way to the coast, boarded a ship and left for England, taking Angel with him.
After that, Angel and Caelum travelled around for 50 more years, just the two of them. Then, Angel decided he was holding Caelum back, and left him, saying they would keep in touch and that he loved Caelum more than anything in the world. So Caelum took off as well. With nobody to hold him back, he decided it was time to try his chances in vampire politics. He went back to my hometown, Barcelona, to try and make a new life for himself there. He joined a coven that covered the greater Barcelona region, including some of southern France. There, he quickly worked his way up the ladder, he even started dating the master, Alejandro. Part of the coven was upset that the coven was now lead by a homosexual couple, but since the King himself had granted them permission, there wasn't much the rest could do. So they went on leading.
Until, about six years after Caelum joined the coven, the unhappy vampires got together and rebelled and tried to kill both Alejandro and the King. They succeeded in killing Alejandro, but the King was saved. The King appointed Caelum as the new master of the coven, knowing he would do everything in his power to destroy the filthy bloodsuckers who killed Alejandro. And oh, he did. He killed every last one of them, holding seven public executions in one day, even killing all of them himself. They weren't the first vampires Caelum had ever killed, but they were certainly the most satisfying. When all of them were dead, Caelum went on leading the coven. It was hard at first, but with the help of Dawn, a friend of Alejandro and Caelum, he managed to do it. Not all of the vampires were happy about him, but most of them were, and the rest was still afraid of him since the mass execution.
So, Caelum went on leading for 76 more years. Then, the King, who was also a close friend of Caelum, got assassinated, and he decided to leave, leaving Dawn in charge as the new pack master. He met up with Angel, and they travelled together for about a year. After that, they split up again. In the following 124 years, Caelum travelled the world, from Croatia to America to Brazil to New Zealand to Italy to China back to America. There, he spent a couple of years serving a Queen, travelling with her, protecting her, serving her in the easiest ways possible. He even got her to hire Angel as well, but again, they split up after only a short time. This time, however, it was Caelum who left, but not at his own free will. The master of one of the bigger covens in his Queen's area had been murdered and she wanted Caelum in charge. Longing back to the close society of a coven, he accepted.
